XLV

Don April 27th, 2009

XLV Wordsworth wrote an endless poem in blank verse on” the growth of a poet’s mind.”  I shall attempt a more modest feat for a more distracted age: a blog, “Things which a Lifetime of Trying to Be a Poet has Taught Me.”

Spring is a time of great beauty and spiritual symbolism, as the rebirth of Nature speaks of the greater Resurrection that is coming for Christian believers.  Unfortunately, it also reminds us of the Fall and the Curse under which we currently labor—at least, if you suffer from Hay Fever.  Will plants reproduce without pollen in the New Earth, or will it just not affect us?  Probably the latter.  I can’t wait!

 THE COMING OF SPRING

I ask myself a question ‘round this time

Each year, though now first setting it to rhyme.

It is a burning, nagging question:  “Is

Spring worth the swelling in my sinuses?”

And though I have my doubts, I must confess

When all is said and done, I answer . . . “What, are you kidding?!”
